What should I do in the event of an accident?                                                                       < Back to At A Glance

YOU SHOULD...

1. Exchange particulars of involved parties including Name, NRIC/FIN, Telephone Number, Address and Insurer. Take note of the vehicle numbers and do take digital photographs of your accident vehicle which can be included during e-filing of accident reports later

2. Call your insurer's hotline for a tow truck or for further advice on the accident

3. Report and bring your accident vehicle (whether damaged or not) to the approved reporting centres / authorised workshops within 24 hours or by the next working day

4. For a list of approved reporting centres / authorised workshops, please check out your policy documents or refer to Westing for assistance

5. Avoid all unauthorised tow-truck operators or repair workshops

THE BENEFITS OF REPORTING...

By reporting the accident within the stipulated time, you not only enjoy hassle-free and quality-certified repair services provided, you will also avoid potentially higher costs from exaggerated claims.

REMEMBER
All accidents must be reported to your insurer within 24 hours or by the next working day with your accident vehicle, no matter how trivial or even if there is no visible damage, and irrespective of whether you are claiming from any insurers or third parties

SHOULD YOU FAIL TO REPORT THE ACCIDENT...

Should you fail to report to your insurance company with your accident vehicle, you may find yourself in a position of having your claims prejudiced or declined later by them. Failure to comply with the new policy condition will be seen as being 'in breach' of the policy terms and conditions and this will allow the insurer to discharge its liability in this matter. This means that the insurance company will have no liability to pay the claim.

Any non-compliance of this Policy Condition will also result in a loss of your No Claims Discount upon renewal of your policy.

CAN I STILL USE IDAC?

The Framework does not mean the end of Independent Damage Assessment Centres (IDAC). There is no change to the process at IDAC currently used by some insurers. If in doubt, you are advised to check with us on the use of IDAC.

Making a Claim
< Back to At A Glance

OWN DAMAGE

If you are making a repair claim for an accident caused by yourself or your authorised driver which does not involve other vehicles, you may proceed directly to the authorised workshop. If a tow truck is required, please contact your insurer's hotline.

For a list of authorised workshops, please refer to your policy documents or contact Westing for assistance.

All paperwork including reporting, filing can be done at the authorised workshop.

THIRD PARTY

If you are making a repair claim against Third Party, you may do one of the following:

(1)     Claim under Own Damage and let your insurer seek recovery from the Third Party's insurer. In such instances,
your NCD will be affected and will be reinstated only upon successful recovery of claim amount

(2)     Claim against Third Party directly by settling the repair payment on your own and appointing a lawyer to assist in
          the recovery of damages

(3)     Claim against Third Party vis-a-vis Workshop. You may also approach the repairing workshop to recover the
claim from the Third Party. Unless the workshop has very strong reasons to believe that the claim is payable,
they are not likely to assist you in the recovery process. If the workshop does, it mostly means that you do
not have to cough up with the repair costs. The workshop will take over the responsibility of repairing and
claiming against the Third Party directly. It is advised that in such circumstances, you should go to the
authorised workshop of your insurer. This is to prevent that in the event of an unsuccessful recovery, your
insurance policy will still cover the loss.

OTHERS

If you are all other claims such as Accident Medical Expenses, Personal Accident benefits, Loss of Personal Effects, please call the insurer's hotline for advice or contact Westing for assistance. You are required to complete the insurer's claim form with all the necessary documents, receipts and reports.
